Vegetable Beef Puff Pastry Pasties

Makes 4-6

Ingredients:

10 oz ground beef

1 onion, diced

1 carrot, diced

1 potato, diced

½ cup shredded cheese of choice

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 sheet frozen puff pastry dough, thawed

1 egg, beaten

Instructions:

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet.
  1. Sauté in the heated skillet the ground beef, carrots, onions, and potato until beef is fully cooked.  Season to taste with salt and pepper. Let cool.
  1. Roll out puff pastry and cut into 6-inch rounds.
  1. Portion the filling into the center of each round. Add a small amount of cheese.
  1. Brush the rim of each pastry with egg and bring the sides up to meet in the center. Pinch the edges and shape into uniform ovals.
  1. Place pastries on a prepared baking sheet and brush with remaining egg. Slit each pasty on either side of the seam to allow steam to escape while cooking.
  1. Bake pasties in a 375 degree F oven for approximately 15 minutes, until golden brown.
  1. Remove pasties from oven and serve warm.  Watch cheese will be very hot.

I read this recipe for “Vegetable Beef Puff Pastry”.

The ingredients call for only 1 phyllo sheet, which puzzles me. Is this correct?

Please let me know, as the recipe sounds yummy.

    Hi Engeline:

Good catch. The recipe should read one sheet of puff pastry. I’ll edit the recipe so that it reflects the right ingredient! Thank you for checking with me. Hope you enjoy the recipe!

Can the Vegetable Beef Puff Pastry Pasties be prepared a day ahead of time and then baked. This would be nice to take to a party.

    Hi Teresa:

Yes, the pasties can be made one day ahead. I would make them up, wrap them in plastic wrap and refrigerate until you are ready to bake them. Enjoy!
